Mindelheimer Klettersteig: Beautiful hut trekking tour in the Allgäu Alps

The Via Farrata „Mindelheimer Klettersteig“ is a beautiful and very long Via Ferrata with medium difficulty. The Via Ferrata follows a path from the Fiederepass hut (Fiederepasshütte) to the Mindelheim hut (Mindelheimer Hütte) and is most of the time on top of the ridge of the „Schafalpenköpfe“. It is possible to do this tour in one day, but I would definitely recommend to stay overnight at the Fiederepass hut and the Mindelheim hut.

Day 1: From Kleinwalsertal to Fiederepasshütte

Walser Hammerspitze (2170 m)

We started our fist day at the valley station of the Kanzelwand cable car. The weather was quite cloudy and the path to the top station did not look very interesting, which is shy we decided to take the cable car and start the hike at the top station. From there leads an easy way to the first summit of the tour, the Kanzelwand (2058 m). After that, the path gets more interesting towards the second summit, the Walser Hammerspitze. The path to the Walser Hammerspitze (2170 m) is not that easy to find and sometimes quite exposed. But these parts are short, and after about an hour we can see the summit cross.

The summit is a great place for a short break. From now on there are two possibilities to reach the Fiederepass hut. A difficult trail over the ridge to the Oberstdorfer Hammerspitze and an easier trail that goes west past the mountain range. We decided to take the easier trail and follow the signs to „Fiederepasshütte“. After losing some altitude we turn south until we reach the mountain pass and the beautiful hut.
